  • 2 tablespoons bourbon (optional, but recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spiciness)

Method
 

  1. Gather all your ingredients and rinse the blueberries under cool water; pat them dry.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar; simmer on medium heat.
  3. Stir occasionally as the blueberries soften and release their juices, creating a base for the sauce.
  4. Once soft, stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper; add bourbon if using.
  5. Let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened; use an immersion blender for a smooth texture if desired.

Notes
