- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
 - Add the beef chunks and sear them until browned on all sides.
 - Remove the beef and set it aside.
 - In the same pot, add the sliced onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger; stir until fragrant and slightly golden.
 - Toss in the star anise and cinnamon stick.
 - Pour in the beef broth, soy sauce, and hoisin sauce; return the seared beef to the pot.
 - Bring everything to a boil, then lower the heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 1.5 hours.
