Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb beef chuck, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 8 oz fresh egg noodles or ramen noodles
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Green onions for garnish

Method
 

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the beef chunks and sear them until browned on all sides.
  3. Remove the beef and set it aside.
  4. In the same pot, add the sliced onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger; stir until fragrant and slightly golden.
  5. Toss in the star anise and cinnamon stick.
  6. Pour in the beef broth, soy sauce, and hoisin sauce; return the seared beef to the pot.
  7. Bring everything to a boil, then lower the heat, cover, and let it simmer for about 1.5 hours.
