- In a large bowl, mix the masa harina, chicken bouillon (if using), and salt.
- Gradually add boiling water, stirring constantly until a smooth dough forms.
- Mix in the softened butter or lard until well incorporated.
- Let the dough rest for 10 minutes to cool and become pliable.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
- Flatten each ball into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place a small amount of cheese and beans in the center of each disc.
- Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal, then gently reshape into discs.
- Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat and lightly coat with vegetable oil.
- Cook the pupusas for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
