Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter for spreading

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Loaf pan (9x5 inches)
  • Kitchen towel
  • Parchment paper (optional)

Method

  1. Combine flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together warm milk, eggs, and melted butter.
  3. Slowly pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl while the dough rises.
  7. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  8. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  9. Press the mixture gently into the butter.
  10. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  11. Place the log seam-side down in a greased loaf pan and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  13. Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  14. Let it cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

For dairy-free, substitute almond milk. For a heartier loaf, use whole wheat flour. The second rise is crucial for a light loaf; don't skip it! Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or wrap and freeze for longer storage. Consider adding nuts or dried fruits for extra flavor and texture!
