Ingredients

  • 200 g Dark chocolate
  • 250 g All-purpose flour
  • 400 g Sugar
  • 50 g Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 3 Eggs
  • 240 ml Milk
  • 100 ml Vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cake pans
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round pans lightly with butter or cooking spray. Dust them with cocoa powder to prevent sticking. Pro tip: Line the bottoms with parchment paper for extra insurance. The smell of warm chocolate will soon fill your kitchen!
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make sure everything is evenly mixed before moving on.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Stir until smooth. You’ll notice the batter turning glossy and thick. Be patient—it’s worth it!
  4. Gradually pour in boiling water while stirring. The batter will become thin, which might surprise you, but don’t worry! This step makes the cake super moist and tender once baked.
  5. Divide the batter between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. A toothpick inserted should come out clean. Watch closely toward the end to avoid overbaking. Your kitchen will smell heavenly by now.
