Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth or vegetable broth for vegetarian
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • for garnish Fresh parsley optional

Method
 

  1. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
  3. Stir in the rice and cook for 1-2 minutes, ensuring the rice is well coated with the onion mixture.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  5. Cover and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid has been absorbed.
  6. Stir in the grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese, allowing it to melt into the rice.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot.
