Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 4 eggs separated
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • q.s. powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. Carefully separate the eggs, placing the whites in a clean bowl.
  2. Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg yolks with the powdered sugar until thick and creamy.
  4. Whisk the melted butter and water together, then slowly mix into the egg yolk mixture.
  5. Pour in the warm milk and sift in the all-purpose flour and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth.
  6. Gently fold one-third of the egg whites into the batter, then fold in the remaining whites until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9x13 inch baking dish and smooth the top.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F (180°C) oven for about 50 minutes, until golden and firm.
  9. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
