- In a large bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together with the sugar and vanilla sugar until smooth. Slowly pour in the milk while continuing to whisk. Add a pinch of salt and any optional spices.
- Take each slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, soaking briefly on each side.
- In a nonstick skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and then place the soaked bread slices into the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Transfer the cooked French toast to plates and top with powdered sugar, honey, maple syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream as desired.

Notes
Use slightly stale bread for better absorption of the egg mixture without falling apart. If using fresh bread, consider toasting it lightly beforehand.
