Ingredients
  

  • 500 g thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak)
  • 3 pieces onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • few sprigs fresh chives, chopped for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Sharp chef's knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Grater (for fresh ginger)

Method
 

  1. Warm a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add olive oil.
  2. Add the thinly sliced onions to the pan and sauté until soft, shiny, and golden-translucent.
  3. Add the sliced beef to the skillet with the onions, spreading it out in a single layer. Cook undisturbed until colored, then stir until browned all over.
  4. Pour in honey, soy sauce, and grated ginger, stirring to coat the beef and onions.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper, reduce heat to medium-low, and let simmer until the sauce thickens, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  6. Transfer the honey garlic beef to a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped chives before serving hot.

Notes

For a variation, try substituting chicken or tofu for beef. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
