Ingredients

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced

Equipment

  • Large pot for boiling pasta
  • Large skillet for browning beef and sautéing onions
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Bowls for serving

Method

  1. Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it into small pieces, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion to the skillet with the beef and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  4. Stir the cooked macaroni into the skillet with the beef and onion. Let it simmer for a few more minutes for flavors to meld. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve hot, topped with shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

For lighter options, substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken. You can easily use any small pasta shape instead of elbow macaroni. To make it spicier, consider adding diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for longer storage. When reheating, add a splash of broth or water if it's too thick.
