Ingredients

  • 1 cup pancake mix the 'just add water' kind works great
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 18 cookies Oreo cookies Classic or any fun flavor
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying; canola or peanut oil also work
  • q.s. powdered sugar for dusting

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Slotted spoon or spider strainer
  • Heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet
  • Candy/deep-fry thermometer

Method

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
  2. Sprinkle pancake mix over the wet ingredients and mix until smooth.
  3. Let the batter sit for 5 minutes while you heat the oil.
  4. Pour the oil into a heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet, about 1 ½ inches deep, and heat to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Dip an Oreo into the batter, ensuring it is fully covered, then let excess batter drip off.
  6. Carefully lower the battered Oreo into the hot oil, frying 3-4 at a time.
  7. Fry for about 90 seconds, then flip and fry for another 60-90 seconds until golden brown.
  8. Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels or on a wire rack for extra crispiness.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

These are best enjoyed warm, right after frying for maximum crispiness. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a day. Reheat in the oven to restore some crispiness. Feel free to experiment with different Oreo flavors or add sprinkles to the batter for a fun twist! Always keep an eye on oil temperature for the best frying outcome. Enjoy making memories with this fun dessert!
