  • 450 g ground beef
  • 5 cloves garlic thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • a pinch red pepper flakes optional
  • 280 g linguine or Asian-style noodles
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 4 green onions thinly sliced

Method
 

  1. Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the noodles until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat and drain excess fat.
  3. Sauté the sliced garlic in the pan until fragrant, then add broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, cooking until simmering.
  4. Mix cornstarch and cold water in a bowl, whisk until smooth, then add to the skillet, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
  5. Toss the cooked noodles in the skillet with the sauce for 2-3 minutes and garnish with green onions before serving.
