Ingredients
  

  • 4 apples (like Golden Delicious or Pink Lady)
  • 120 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • a pinch salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 150 ml milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon rum (optional)
  • to taste butter or oil for cooking
  • for decoration powdered sugar

Method
 

  1. Peel the apples, remove the cores, and slice them into 1/3-inch thick rounds.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the eggs with the milk, vanilla extract, and rum if using.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently whisk until smooth, with small lumps remaining.
  5. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
  6. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil.
  7. Dip each apple slice into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off, and place it in the hot pan.
  8. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  9. Transfer cooked fritters to a wire rack or plate and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
