- Gather all ingredients and mince the garlic.
- In a small bowl, mix the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, water, and sesame oil for the sauce.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour the sauce over the beef and stir to combine.
- Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens; season with salt and pepper.
- Wash and dry the lettuce leaves, then spoon a generous amount of beef mixture onto each leaf.
- Garnish with cilantro if desired and fold the leaves around the filling.

Notes
For a lighter version, try ground turkey or chicken. If hoisin sauce is unavailable, mix equal parts soy sauce and honey. Use olive or any neutral oil in place of vegetable oil. To keep the lettuce crisp, assemble wraps just before serving. Store leftovers separately.
